“Appa, call me Appa. What is this Father? You’re not a Britisher!”
I chuckle. As if that’s important right now.
“Take your pick, Father,” she goes on, as if he hasn’t spoken. “I either go to a boarding school like Malory Towers or …”
“Or?”
“You get me the Famous Five’s dog. Timmy”.
I break out into a full-toothed grin. Clearly, I am not the only Enid Blyton fan in the house.
My earliest memories of reading are from the likes of Tinkles, Tintin, Asterix and Obelix and the likes, before graduating to more print non-graphic stories – Malory Towers, Saint Claires, Famous Fives and Secret Sevens – without these, my recommendation list would be incomplete. Little did I know back then that Enid Blyton would leave such a lasting imprint and make me fall in books so much! Rooted in reality but filled with amazing adventures and experiences, they take you to a world beyond imagination, a world that children, and adults even, would absolutely fall in love with! If you’re someone who wants to introduce your kids to the world of reading, try this – it won’t fail!
I have written this 100 word flash fiction for the 2022 Edition of the Blogging A-Z Challenge, a blogging event held every April. Click here to read more on the challenge! My chosen theme for this year is flash fiction driven book recommendations. Even if you aren’t a book reader, you might enjoy the flash fiction.
